The Zagreb Open is an event known for its international reputation. Among the United World Wrestling, it is ranked 1st series. It is used as a platform or stage for the sake of seeding at the World Championship and the Olympics. It takes place in the Arena Zagreb. It is comprised of Men’s freestyle, Women’s wrestling and Men’s Greco-Roman with 30 weight categories.

UWW rewards include 1,500 Swiss Francs for gold medalists, 750 for silver winners and 500 for bronze medalists. It was always utilized for elite grapplers to get an experience of big stage performances. Below, you can check the full list of Team USA medals at the Zagreb Open 2026.
Team USA is currently leading with 215 points in the Men’s Freestyle by collecting 5 gold medals. The 2026 edition had took place between February 4 and February 8, 2026.
Team USA Freestyle Gold Medalists
Spencer Richard Lee (57 kg/126 lbs):
He became the gold medalist by performing through 18-2 score. He won the Quarterfinal against Azamat Tuskaev from Serbia by a marginal score of 4-0. He has lifted the match to a new level by defeating Azamat who was a European silver medalist in the 57 kg weight category.
In the semi-final, he won against Fuga Sasaki from Japan by a score of 10-2 and managed multiple take-downs. He continued to the gold medal match.
Spencer scored a quick takedown and grabbed the gold in just 32 seconds against Bravo-Young from Mexico. Bravo-Young then defaulted due to a knee injury.
Austin James Desanto (61 kg/133 lbs):
He initially got beaten by Reza Momeni from Iran by 11-11. This was a demotivating match for him however he did not lose hope and won against Ali Aburumaila belonging to Palestine through the means of forfeit.
Austin won against Giorgi Goniashvili from Georgia in the 2nd round by a margin of 12-2 through technical superiority.
In round 4, Aman Sehrawat from India was defeated by Austin James by 8-0 (fall). Austin pinned the Olympic medal winner and obtained a gold medal.
David Aaron Carr (74 kg/165 lbs):
In the qualification match, he defeated Aliakbar Fazli (Iran) by 13-2 lead through Fall. David won against Jarret Jacques in the Quarterfinal by the score 9-2 and hence, he became the wrestler who defeated his own teammate.
In the semi-finals, he won against Giorgi Elbakidze (Georgia) by 12-1 via technical superiority.
His Gold Medal match included Yoshinosuke Aoyagi’s loss against him (score 4-1). This was the final where, he defeated the 2025 World Champion in the final 15 seconds.
Parker James Keckeisen (86 kg/184 lbs):
Parker has been the champion from the starting phase of the tournament. He won against Mukul Dahiya (India) by a gap of 11-0 during the Qualification match via Technical Superiority.
The Quarterfinal match recorded the victory against Gabriel McDuffie (SIERRA LEONE) by 13-4. Parker obtained victory via pin in 1 minute 4 seconds.
In the semi-final match, Parker beaten Ali Savadkouhi (2023 Zagreb Open Champion and Under 23 World medalist) by 9-5. This was a huge victory regarding Parker’s career enlistment.
World Silver Medalist and Olympic champion Vladimeri Gamkrelidze (Georgia) lost by 4-3 in the final match which made Parker edge performer in the tournament.
Stephen Leroy Buchanan II (97 kg/197 lbs):
He qualified in the match against Samuel Pereira from Canada by 12-1 via technical superiority.
When Quarterfinal match occurred, he beaten Vicky from India by 14-7. This was the way he faced the 2024 Under 23 World Bronze medalist and won the match.
Stephen won against Andro Margishvili (Georgia) by 14-4 in the Semi-final match during the tournament. Final match comprised of victory against Hassan Yazdani (Iran). The score was 13-3. Stephen scored 12 points in the second half with 4 point throw.
Team USA Silver Medalists
Dean C Hamiti JR (79 kg /175 lbs):
Danny Braunagel was the opponent for Dean whom he defeated by 10-0 during the Quarterfinal match via technical superiority.
In the semi-final match USA wrestler Evan Wick by 6-5 score. The Gold Medal match was evident about Zelimkhan Khadjiev who won the match and Dean lost it in a close gap, settled for silver.
Trent Niemond Hidlay (92 kg /213 lbs):
During the round 1, Mohammadmobin Azimi lost by 5-5 due to won on criteria.
Round 3 involved victory over Abolfazi Rahmani by 12-9. He was lacking by 6-0 initially but later beaten the 3 times age group World medalist.
Michael Macchaiavello during the semi-final lost against Trent by 3-3 and Trent won by advance on criteria basis.
The final match showed Trent settling for a Silver medal through Forfeit.
Wyatt Avery Hendrickson (125 kg/285 lbs):
Captured win over Mortaza Janmohammad through fall scored 8-0. He achieved victory during the Quarterfinal match in 2 minutes 34 seconds.
Wyatt recorded win over Robert Baran who was 2025 World Bronze Medalist.
The Gold Medal match where he lost by pin at 2:06 after his opponent (Shamil Sharipov) locked in a leg-turn.
Team USA Freestyle Bronze Medalists
Joseph Chrisopher Mc Kenna (65 kg/143 lbs):
During the Quarterfinal match, Joseph had signed a victory over Takara Suda where score was 7-0.
Semi-final match was the time when Joseph got lost against Sujeet Kalkal from India due to technical superiority by 11-0.
He won by 4-1 Bronze medal finally against Khamzat Arsamerzouev who was the 2022 Under 20 World Bronze medalist.
Caleb Wayne Henson (70 kg/149 lbs):
Due to criteria win with 5-5 score, Ebrahim won the Qualification match.
Muhamad Abdurachmanov was defeated during the Quarterfinal of this tournament. This match was the point when Henson won through technical superiority.
The Semi-final match was a disappointing tie when he lost against Akaki Kemertelidze from Georgia by 6-4.
The last hope was Bronze Medal match when he finally won vs. Ismail Musukaev who was a World and European Champion.
Evan Wick (79 kg/174 lbs):
He advanced to the Semi-finals when he defeated Amit Amit from India through Fall by a 9-1 score in 4 minutes 19 seconds.
He fought against his own nation’s wrestler DJ Hamiti through a score 6-5. He lost to his teammate DJ Hamiti.
Wick won by 8-6 decision vs. Danny Braunagel in the Bronze Medal Match.
Zahid Valencia (86 kg/190 lbs):
He won vs. Sandeep Mann belonging to India (11-0 technical superiority).
In the Quarterfinal match, he lost in front of Vladimeri Gamkrelidze through a technical superiority. This demotivated him.
In the Bronze Medal Match, he won vs. Abolfazl Shamsipour (Iran) through fall in just 57 seconds.
Dustin Glenn Plott (92 kg/203 lbs):
In the round 1, he win vs. Zaur Beradze (Georgia).
Round 2 included win by 6-3 against Michael Macchiavello (USA), who was 2018 NCAA Champion.
During the round 3, he concluded win through Forfeit against Jointy Kumar from India.
The Semifinal match, he was not able to win vs. Mohammadmobin Azimi (Iran). Azimi used double-leg. He won vs. Michael Macchiavello (USA) for the second time in the tournament at the Bronze Medal Match.
Wrestlers Fails to Secure Any Medals
Anthony Arthur Knox (57 kg/125 lbs) : The Quarterfinal match included his lost against Roman Bravo (12-2 technical superiority) Young from Mexico. He faced 2024 Olympian and past 2 times NCAA Champion.
In a tough fight, Knox was unable to get Bronze (14-6 score) vs. Atish Sunil Todkar (India).
He is ranked 8th in the tournament.
Liam Smith Cronin (57 kg/125 lbs):
Cronin faced bronze medalist, Milad Valizadeh (9-3 score). Valizadeh was defeated in subsequent round which made Cronin unable to advance ahead. He concluded with being ranked 9th.
Ian Maxwell Parker (70 kg/154 lbs):
He lost against Sina Khalili (Iran). Parker faced gold medalist in the opening match.
He won vs. Patryk Olenczyn from Poland (14-2 technical superiority)
Parker lost against Abhimanyou Mandwal when he entered Bronze Medal Match and finished at rank 5th in his weight category. The score was 6-3.
Tyler Oscar Kasak(70 kg/154 lbs):
He played versus Alexander Seiwald from Austria and won through technical fall. In the Quarterfinal match, he lost by 10-0.
In the Elimination knock, Abhimanyu lost in subsequent semifinal round and hence Tyler got eliminated and finished at rank 7th in the tournament.
James Malcolm Green (74 kg/163 lbs):
Playing versus Yoshinosuke Aoyagi (Japan), James lost through a harsh score 6-1.
He won against Kamil Rybicki by 10-0 via technical superiority (Poland) during the Repechage Ayoyagi advanced to finals.
In the Bronze Medal Match, he finally could not able to win against French wrestler Seyfulla Itaev. Green pinned at 3:38 mark and hence he finished at 5th place in the tournament.
Jarrett Andrew Jacques (74 kg/163 lbs):
Initially, he won versus Alfred Daniel (Sierra Leone) through 11-0 score via technical superiority.
In the Quarterfinals, he lost by 9-2 against David Carr (USA).
At the Repechage, he again lost versus Aliakbar Fazlikhalili (Iran). Jacques lost in a tight contest. Since Aliakbar went on to win bronze, he was eliminated and finished at rank 7th.
Daniel Johnathan Braunagel (79 kg/174 lbs):
He won by 18-8 via technical superiority against Sobhan Esmi (Iran). He posted victory through high score marginal gap.
In the Quarterfinals, he was discouraged when he was defeated through 10-0 versus Dean Hamiti from the same nation USA.
He lost again when the Bronze Medal Match happened by a 8-6 score. Hamiti reached finals and he then had to leave the tournament while finishing at 5th rank.
Michael Justin Macchiavello (92 kg/203 lbs):
During the round 1, he managed to win via Forfeit against Jointy Kumar (India).
Dustin Plott, his own teammate won versus Michael by 6-3 in a close match.
Despite of the loss in previous match, round -3 marked the victory of Michael against Zaur Beradze (Georgia).
He was defeated by 3-3 on criteria vs. Trent Hidlay since Trent scored final point in the Semifinals.
Dustin Plott (USA) at the final appearance on Bronze medal Match defeated Michael by the score 6-1 and received rank 4th in the tournament.
Zane Richard Lanham (97 kg/213 lbs):
He won against Musza Arsunkaev (Hungary) via Fall in 3 minutes 39 seconds.
In the Quarterfinals, he lost by 12-1 via technical superiority against Adlan Vishanov (France). Lanham was eliminated from the tournament when Viskhanov lost in subsequent semifinal match finished at rank 7th in the tournament.
Demetrius Murray Thomas (125 kg/276 lbs):
Demetrius lost against Shamil Sharipov (Bahrain) by 10-0 technical superiority. During the Repechage match, he defeated Dinesh Dhankhar by 12-2 Technical Superiority. After Sharipov reached the final match, Demetrius was pulled out of the tournament.
