Ryan grew up seeing his parents love for swimming and enthusiasm for sports, Ryan had four siblings. At the age of five years old, Ryan started his swimming journey and when he was twelve years old, his family relocated to Port Orange to get better swimming guidance and facilities.

Ryan used to attend Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, Florida, there he showed commendable performance and made a name for himself and in 2002, Ryan graduated high school. After that he took admissions at the University of Florida (UF), Gainesville, where he trained under coach Gregg Troy.

During his college years he achieved many forfeits and was a part of Florida Gators Men’s Swimming & Diving Team and completed his college in 2007. In 2003, Ryan started his professional swimming career from Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and achieved a gold medal in 4×200m freestyle relay.

  • 2004-2006: In 2004, Ryan achieved gold in the 4×200m freestyle relay and silver in 200m at the Athens Olympics where he even set an Olympic record. In the year 2005, he achieved a gold medal in the 4×200m freestyle relay at the World Aquatics Championships with his teammates Michael Phelps, Peter Vanderkaay and Klete Keller. At the 2006, Short-Course World Championships and Pan Pacific Championships, Ryan achieved gold medal 200 m backstroke, 200 m IM, and 400 m IM, and 800 m freestyle relay respectively.
